Cajas Ley

In Choquecancha, a community in Cusco, this design is an example of hatun pallay, a very ancient design. According to Vidal de Milla (2000), hatun pallay has an agricultural connotation (Vidal de Milla 2000). These geometric designs symbolically represent farm land. The cajas ley motif is inspired by the Q’oto stars that can be seen on moonlit nights. This motif is frequently featured in illcllas (shawls).
