FINISHING

In the finishing step, the weaver joins the pieces of the textile and completes the textile’s borders. Several techniques may be used, including chucay or chuscay (sewing pieces together, including embroidery stitches like chaska (star) and tika (flower); awapa, chichilla, and seqapa (protective and decorative finishes); flecos (narrow woven bands that form fringes, used particularly on edges and neck openings); and decoraciones (embroidery or applique applied to fabric edges).
