This design refers to the toenail of a llama. In Quishuarani, a community in the Cusco region, the llama nail is also known by the names siki punaq and churucha. It is used in making huatos or straps, to reinforce the borders of illcllas (shawls) and ponchos (Proyecto Corredor Puno-Cusco 2005).
