Pillpintu

This design represents a butterfly. In Ccollana, a community in the region of Cusco, these animals abound among sewn fields. Children chase the beautifully-colored butterflies in springtime. When women see black butterflies, however, their appearance is believed to announce a death, in particular of animals or loved ones. In Quishuarani, another community in Cusco, the butterfly is believed to bring good luck (Proyecto Corredor Puno-Cusco 2005).
